Mummifying tomatoes

After our mummification of tomatoes in natron 2 weeks ago, the children in Class 3 predicted how their tomatoes may look now. The predictions included the tomatoes being wrinkly, mushy, soggy or dry. When the children opened up the ‘sarcophagus’, they expected an unpleasant smell and all seemed surprised that there was none.
The children noticed how the tomato skin had shrunk, shrivelled or dried and were interested to see that the tomatoes were now smaller.

They were rewrapped and sealed ready to be observed again in 2 weeks time. Predictions have already been made by the children as they worked at re wrapping. We will see if they are right!
