It all began with the arrival of a suitcase...

We concluded from the items in the suitcase (a gas mask, ration book, money with the date 1939 on, a poem about 'Being Homesick', a crocheted blanked & some strange smelling soap, that they might have belonged to a child during WW2. With that in mind we now had to consider what we know about WW2 and how it affected the lives of people at that time.

We have continued with exploring life in 1939 this week, and we have discovered that many of the decisions that were made right at the start of the War had already been planned in advance. This made us wonder about WHO made these decisions and WHAT factors did they need to consider? We took on the role of the Ministry of Health so that we could explore some of the important decisions involving ‘Operation Pied Piper’ – the evacuation process…
